Vesper Noir Bday Scrapbook
An Unfortunate Haunting
There had been a strange case of paranormal activity coming from an abandoned house in the middle of nowhere. Vesper Noir the resident scholar of guild Tempus set up camp nearby and waited for nightfall. He had heard rumours that a fortune teller’s ghost hung around cursing all who set foot inside. Clutching his spear in one hand, he sipped some tea. It would be a good chance to go on an adventure after all. The guild was getting a little too crowded and he needed his space. When he found this job posted on the guild bulletin board he took it. As the orange sunset gave way to nightfall, Vesper could sense the magical energy growing. He got up and surveyed the perimeter, noting the old spell tags decorating the sides. Clearly someone had been trying to seal the spirit before. A quick peek inside a nearby window showed signs of a decaying interior. A bare light bulb glowed dimly on the ceiling showing what looked to be an ordinary dining room. After one last survey of the area and a sip of tea, Vesper finally entered the abandoned house. He could feel the presence of magic, but there seemed to be nobody else in the house. Something caught his attention. A crystal ball now sat on the dining room table. Vesper gazed into it. It showed the outside of the house and the starry night sky. He could feel magic radiating from the crystal ball, seemingly filling the whole house and surrounding area. Then it faded away. Something glinted in the sky outside. Vesper walked to a nearby window and looked. A glass dome now surrounded the area. Was this the world inside the crystal ball? How did he even get here in the first place? Vesper rushed towards the glass with his spear with all his strength, but the glass refused to budge. Words suddenly appeared on the glass much like someone drawing on a frosty window. Are you alone?
“Yes, I came here for some peace and quiet. My name is Vesper Noir and I’m the resident scholar of guild Tempus.”
I’m always alone. Ever since a rival fortune teller stole all my customers away with their more accurate fortunes.
“So you trap people inside a crystal ball as revenge? I fail to see the logic behind this. Perhaps you should try a new hobby, like biking or tea?”
I could place a curse on you.
“No thanks, I’m cursed enough already. Now will you please let me go? Talking with new people makes me nervous.” The glass faded slowly without a word from the mysterious presence. Vesper soon found himself back at the remains of his campsite. The house appeared to be just an ordinary building now. It seemed like his job was complete. He took a sip of tea. The guild wouldn’t expect him back for another few days. He may as well camp some more.
